MOSCOW (AP) Zenit St. Petersburg saw its record winning start to the Russian Premier League season end Saturday after being frustrated in a goalless draw at home to Spartak Moscow.
That ensured the St. Petersburg club's winning streak ended at eight the best start any team has ever made to a Russian top-flight season.
Zenit remains the league leader but had its margin cut to four points after defending champion CSKA Moscow scraped a 4-3 win over relegation-threatened Ural Yekaterinburg. Spartak sits fifth.
Spartak came closest to scoring when Jose Manuel Jurado rattled Zenit's woodwork in the first half.
With Russia manager Fabio Capello watching from the stands, Zenit pushed forward after the break, forcing a series of fine saves from Spartak goalkeeper Artyom Rebrov.
