MONTPELLIER, France (AP) Montpellier coach Jean Fernandez has resigned after a seventh straight match without a win.
Montpellier lost at home to Lorient 2-0 on Wednesday to leave it 17th place in the French league standings, five points off the bottom three.
Club president Laurent Nicollin says Pascal Baills will act as interim manager until a long-term replacement is found.
Fernandez, who took charge in July, has previously managed teams including Nice, Marseille, Lille, Sochaux and Auxerre.
The 59-year-old coach replaced Rene Girard, who had steered Montpellier to the league title in 2012.
