French media manager Lionel Rossigneux said yesterday the team would not comment on the allegations, but said "a knee hit the face of Morgan Parra by Richie McCaw".
"The service of the French team is that we are not doing any comment on that. We just found it a bit sad that after the Rugby World Cup, there is still some stories in the newspaper rather than celebrating the All Blacks' victory."
Last night, Sky Sport show Reunion screened film which revealed the culprit was not International Rugby Board player of the year Dusautoir, but Rougerie.
It showed Rougerie appear to head-butt McCaw, who was lying on the ground, before raking his fingers across his face and eyes in the 77th minute of the final, won 8-7 by the All Blacks.
Reunion panellist Grant Nisbett described the images as "damning", and former All Black halfback Jon Preston said it was "indefensible".
If Rougerie had been cited, he could have been suspended for six months.
Under IRB rules, the citing period after the game closed at 10.45pm yesterday. Earlier in the day, the IRB said it had not received any complaints.
The NZ Rugby Union declined to comment, other than to confirm no complaints had been made to the IRB.
McCaw told TVNZ yesterday: "I got poked in the eye or something. I don't know if it was intentional ... It was pretty quick. When the final whistle went, I had no damage, it was fine. I am just happy we won."
Teammate Kieran Read said he didn't see the incident.
But he added: "At the time, the skip said he was getting eye-gouged. Obviously something has happened."
Before the final, the French reacted angrily to suggestions - including from former All Black captain Wayne Shelford - that they could resort to ugly tactics to throw the All Blacks off their game.
Despite a stunning display in the final, France's tournament campaign has been littered with controversy.
They were fined $16,000 for their defiant advance on the All Black haka during the final and the team were dogged by infighting and several poor performances.

Yesterday, the French players relaxed in the lobby of the Crowne Plaza hotel as they prepared to check out, enjoying a round of champagne just after midday while sitting under screens showing World Cup highlights.
Rougerie flipped through a Herald and showed Dimitri Yachvili how he was picked in the newspaper's tournament "dream team", and they laughed at photos of teammates staggering around town on the morning after the final.
A television reporter tried out his French to ask for an interview, but the team were done fronting for publicity.
Instead, they went to Pastis restaurant - and found time for one final run-in with the media.
Several players were involved in an incident with Herald photographers. French lock Pascal Pape spat at one photographer and made contact with another outside the restaurant on the corner of Nelson and Victoria Sts.
One of the players also wrestled a camera off a photographer. He took the camera into the restaurant and it was eventually returned by a Rugby World Cup official but without the memory card.
The card had still not been returned last night, despite Herald requests.
