Who is your all-time favourite player?
When I was growing up it was Robbie Fowler. I was a Liverpool fan so that was pretty natural. Then it was [Liverpool captain] Steven Gerrard, who has been so influential in Liverpool's success.
Every new All White has to sing a song
as an initiation when they first come into the squad. What was yours?
I did Oasis, Wonderwall.
But they're a Manchester band, you're a Liverpool fan ...
I was brought up near Manchester so I think that's OK.
What's the most embarrassing song on your iPod and what was the last one you downloaded?
There are a few embarrassing ones. I have a few of the old Disney ones, like High School Musical. I might need to get rid of those. The last one I added was an English artist called Tiny Temper. He's an R&B, rap artist.
What other sports did you play as a kid and were there any you were really rubbish at?
I played cricket at school - that was the main one. As I have got into football I have started playing golf. I was OK at cricket, but I'm rubbish at golf. I try to avoid things I don't think I will be any good at. Tennis is probably my worst sport.
What has been your best moment in soccer?
It would have to be the 1-1 draw with Italy. That stands out for me. Playing the world champions and getting a result against them was brilliant.
Did that match also contain your worst moment, given you were adjudged to be at fault for Italy's penalty?
Obviously giving the penalty away, you don't want to do that. But it was a bit soft. [Italy midfielder Daniele Di Rossi] has thrown himself to the floor easily. We had to get on with it and carry on with the game.
Have you practised your diving technique since then?
Not yet. I think we are going to have to, really, to match these other teams at the World Cup.
English footballers are known for fancy cars. What car do you drive and is it pimped out?
I'm driving a Mercedes CLC 200 It's just the standard issue. Ipswich is a bit more upmarket than Liverpool so I don't have to worry about driving it around and drawing attention to myself.
You play for Ipswich in the English Championship. What is manager and former Manchester United hardman Roy Keane really like?
He's a disciplinarian. You don't want to step out of line with him because he will deal with you quite harshly if you don't stick to his regulations. I think you need that discipline in what you're doing and I think he's good for the players.
You're still only new to soccer so where do you see yourself in four years' time?
Hopefully still playing for Ipswich and hopefully in the Premier League. That's the plan. And maybe playing in another World Cup for New Zealand. That would be great.
The eyes of the world are on South Africa at the moment. What's it going to be like back to Ipswich after this?
It's been the club I have been at for four years and I don't think it will be any different.
Do teammates take the mickey out of your [English] accent? And do you have a nickname?
They definitely take the mickey out of my accent, with mine being such a strong English one. Me and [former Scotland youth international] Mikey [McGlinchey] get a lot of grief. They call me Milky, because I'm a bit pasty.
South Africa is an amazing country. What's the strangest thing that has happened since you've been here?
It was probably turning up to the Chile match [in our last warm-up game] without a pre-match meal. And when it did arrive, they put it on the floor.
