Triathlon: Silver for Hewitt

New Zealand triathlete Andrea Hewitt excelled to finish second in the latest round of the world championship series in Japan today.

Hewitt trailed home Sweden's Lisa Norden by four seconds in Yokohama, while compatriot Debbie Tanner finished 13th.

Norden was shadowed by Hewitt for much of the 10km run before making the vital break with 200m remaining as she posted a time of one hour 55 minutes 56 seconds.

Hewitt ended up 3sec ahead of Japanese bronze medallist Juri Ide.

Both she and Tanner positioned themselves superbly at the end of the bike leg, with Hewitt third and Tanner eighth.

Hewitt then took the lead as they headed into the 10km run with Tanner in 10th, 5sec behind.

But Tanner joined others in falling off the pace, fading over the second half of the run in oppressively hot conditions.
