* The first trainer in the Commonwealth to pass $1 million prizemoney in a season (1973-74).
* When he won the 1989-90 Sydney premiership he became the first trainer to have won premierships in three states.
* The first interstate trainer to win the Melbourne premiership with 37-1/2 winners in the 1968-69 season, also winning the Adelaide premiership in the same year with 58 wins and again in the 1970-71 season with 41-1/2 wins in Melbourne and 74 in Adelaide.
* Repeated that feat again in 1969-70 with 42 in Melbourne and 48 in Adelaide.
