A pair of John Paul College students and their business teacher have wowed judges with their business acumen, earning them national awards.
Year 11 students Eamon Walsh, 15, and Archie Tombleson, 16, won the Start-Up Company of the Year award for the Young Enterprise Scheme Start-Up competition.
Their business teacher Minka Webb was also recognised, winning the Sir James Fletcher Award for Outstanding Contribution to Enterprise.
The Start-Up programme is aimed at Year 11 students and designed to align with level 1 business studies.
The pair created bath bombs and sold their products to students in the lead-up to Mother's Day.
Archie said it was "pretty insane" to win the national award.
"At the beginning we didn't really think we would get that far in the competition but when we got into the top six we started thinking we had a good chance."
Eamon said this was the first big business project he and Archie had done.
"We didn't have a lot of money to get the business started so we had to be tactical about what we did. We decided on bath bombs because the ingredients were cheap and we could find recipes online of how to make them.
"We noticed there wasn't stuff being sold to high school students for Mother's Day like there is at primary school so marketed our product to coincide with the holiday."
Archie and Eamon both agreed it had been a long process but they were proud to have done so well.
Mrs Webb said she was extremely proud of the boys' efforts.
"It was their clever marketing that really blew myself and the Start-Up judges away," she said. "They took a simple business idea and sold it in a way that maximised their profits - it was their strategic thinking that sealed the deal.
"I was absolutely delighted for them when we found out they had won the national competition - it's a big deal."
Mrs Webb said she was overjoyed when she found out she too had won an award.
Mrs Webb, Eamon and Archie will be presented with their awards at a ceremony in Wellington on December 9.
