Police have recovered three firearms and a significant amount of ammunition from addresses in Tokoroa.
Police carried out a series of search warrants this morning acting on information received from the public relating to the illegal possession of firearms.
The firearms and ammunition were recovered from addresses in Hinau St.
Six men will appear in Rotorua District Court tomorrow facing various charges including Arms Act offences and breaches of court imposed bail conditions.
Acting Area Commander for Taupo, Inspector Brent Crowe said it was a "controlled, pre-planned operation, where police acted on information relating to criminal gangs and illegal possession of firearms".
"At no time during the operation was any there cause for public concern.
"The public should be under no illusion that gangs are involved in organised crime that causes significant harm in our communities.
"Police will continue to focus on the gangs' illegal activities and work with communities to disrupt criminal activity and prevent further harm."
