A mysterious man has become creative for Mother's Day, using thousands of Post-it notes to form a collage in the city centre where people can write personalised messages.
The man dropped off an anonymous note at the Rotorua Daily Post this week - aptly written on five Post-it notes - in which he said he was just doing it "for the aroha" and "because mums deserve it".
He has attached a pen to the collage for people to write their personalised notes to or about their mothers.
The collage, on the window of an empty shop on the corner of Eruera and Tutanekai streets, has been attracting interest since it went up on Wednesday, nearby Lavender Shop owner Joanna White said.
Part of the collage had blown away yesterday but the sentiment was still there.
"There's been quite a few who stopped and wrote on it.
"Someone's gone out of their way to do it, I think it was quite a good idea because there is nothing really around town for Mother's Day."
Carlo Anton Casas, 7, stopped to write a special note for his mum Christine yesterday.
She said it was her family's first Mother's Day in New Zealand, as they had recently moved from the Philippines.
Wikitoria Wade-Brown stumbled across the collage yesterday afternoon and wrote a personalised message.
Mother's Day, which is on Sunday, was important to her, she said.
"I think this is a cool idea. I think it's awesome because you can send it spiritually.
"I wrote a message for all my nannies and aunties and my mum. I am a mother of four as well."
Jemma Pirrie said she thought it would be popular - as long as it did not rain.
"Withstanding rain, I think it's a good idea.
"I think it maybe should have got more exposure, so more people could write on it."
