A man has appeared in court following a fatal crash near Golden Springs earlier this year.
Malcolm John McGee, 36, of Tauranga, appeared before a registrar in the Rotorua District Court yesterday, charged with careless driving causing death, possession of cannabis, and possessing a cannabis pipe.
All three charges relate to the same incident on March 23, when the car McGee was driving collided with another on State Highway 5 south of Rotorua, about 300m north of Tutukau Rd.
The driver of the other car, 66-year-old Michael John Cambridge of Blenheim, was killed.
The crash was the second fatal collision on Rotorua roads this year, and happened less than a week after the first.
McGee faces a maximum of three months' imprisonment and a $4500 fine. He also faces a maximum of three months' jail for possessing cannabis and one year's imprisonment for possessing a pipe.
McGee was remanded without plea and will reappear in the Rotorua District Court on October 1.
