A Rotorua man has appeared in court facing more than 20 historical sex charges.
The 59-year-old, who has interim name suppression, appeared before a registrar in the Rotorua District Court this morning and was remanded without plea until October 8.
He faces 22 charges, with 20 related to one complainant. Those include one charge of raping her while she was stupefied, three charges of rape, six charges of sexual violation and 10 charges of indecent assault.
The complainant was between the age of 12 and 16 at the time of the alleged offending.
The remaining two charges are indecent assault against a girl aged 11 at the time of the alleged offending.
Many of the charges were representative, meaning they allegedly happened more than once.
The charges relate to a period between 1998 and 2003.
The man was granted bail with the condition that he does not leave the country.
