Rotorua residents are being reminded to keep their doors locked after Neighbourhood Support recorded an increase in burglaries last week.
More than 20 residential homes were burgled in the Rotorua district last week, with a number of commercial properties also targeted.
Neighbourhood Support Rotorua co-ordinator Bruce Quedley said he did not know what caused the increase.
"For some unexplained reason there has been a sudden spike in burglaries," he said.
The suburbs targeted most were Ngongotaha, with four homes burgled, and Western Heights and Fairy Springs.
