The annual Institute of Registered Music Teachers of New Zealand scholarship competition is the perfect night out for people wanting to indulge in high-calibre music.
Running for more than two decades, the scholarship is open to Rotorua and Taupo music students at grade six or above.
This year there will be 12 competitors in total - eight pianists and four vocalists.
The daytime concert, starting at 10.45am, is free.
Each competitor will perform 15-20 minutes of classical and contemporary music.
Rotorua Branch of the Institute of Registered Music Teachers publicity officer Annamarie Harris said people could expect "an evening of high class music and entertainment".
"There will be a great variety of music on offer that will be of a high calibre and standard."
Ms Harris said the concert showcases the classical talent of Rotorua and Taupo students.
"Out of the 12 performers, 11 are school-aged students, with the youngest 13 years old. Their music is of a very high standard and will wow the audience."
The night concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost $15 at the door and include supper.
Ms Harris said the evening concert was more formal.
"It will be quite a spectacle to look at and will run like a professional production."
At the formal evening concert the contestants perform in five-minute brackets and from this, six will be chosen as finalists, performing in a second round.
The prize money totals more than $2000, with each of the six finalists receiving a share of the prize pool. There is also a prize for the best piano solo and the Best Presentation Cup.
Ms Harris said it was a concert not to be missed.
"You won't hear any pop or rock music, but if you enjoy classical music and contemporary works from theatre productions, this concert will be very entertaining."
