A comprehensive 24-hour service for sexual assault victims will be offered by Rotorua's Rangiora Sexual Health Clinic when it reopens next week.
For the first time in Rotorua, the service will cover all sexual assaults, recent and historic, and offer victims a chance to receive medical care, testing and treatment, ACC cover, referral to specialist services, counselling and legal information.
Dr Cate Mills, one of the doctors providing the service, said the sexual health clinic had a new name, new colours and a refurbished clinic in the Bridgman South building at Rotorua Hospital.
Dr Mills said the clinic now offered the sexual assault service under the Sexual Assault Assessment and Treatment Service Contract and had a special room where forensic examinations would be completed. Treatment was available for victims of suspected or alleged sexual abuse or assault regardless of age or gender.
Referrals were mostly from the police, but people could self refer or be referred by other agencies.
