As a breast cancer survivor, June Grant knows how important regular screening is, and how harrowing the journey through diagnosis and treatment can be.
Since August, the Rotorua-based health worker has been able to make that journey easier and more pleasant for other Maori women, thanks to a new car donated by the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation and Toyota NZ.
It is one of 12 cars around the country, which are now estimated to have clocked up more than 60,000km between them.
Of Te Arawa, Tuwharetoa, Tuhourangi/Ngati Wahiao descent, Ms Grant starred in a BreastScreen Aotearoa campaign to promote screening and works as a health promoter for Rotorua Area Primary Health Services (RAPHS).
"Part of my work is offering transport to ladies who might have difficulty getting to a mammogram appointment," she said.
