Daniel Sokoleti Viliami, 25, a storeman who bashed his girlfriend's head against a concrete wall, has been found guilty of her murder by a jury of seven women and five men in the High Court at Hamilton. The jury took just under two hours on Wednesday to reach the verdict.
The court was told that Viliami and Cheyanne Rongonui, 18, went to a movie on August 29 last year. They fought and Ms Rongonui went home by herself. Viliami stayed in town drinking and arrived home just after 6am in a rage because he thought she had been cheating on him.
He held her down on a bed while he ripped off her pyjamas before banging her head against the concrete wall of their flat. Viliami was remanded in custody for sentence on June 5.
