A man involved in a crash which claimed the life of his dog is undergoing surgery as he continues to battle serious injuries.
The man remains in a serious but stable condition in Waikato Hospital today.
The 67-year-old suffered critical head and arm injuries after the vehicle he was driving and another car collided in Maramarua at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Kopuku Rd about 2.30pm.
The woman driver of the other car was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.
The man's dog, Bella, a Huntaway cross, suffered a broken leg, injured back and a degloved paw, after she was thrown from the vehicle on to the road.
