The police called - They have your stash.
Wellington District Police have created a social media storm after posting a photo of punter's lost cannabis and asked for the person to come and collect it.
The police posted on Facebook on Sunday: "We've located a substantial amount of cannabis and would like to speak to its owner.
"If this is yours can you please get in touch with us. #WonderIfTheyWillCall"
The post has attracted a lot of love from the public with thousands liking and commenting on the photo.
"Here's how we find our criminals in NZ. We just ask and they hand themselves in haha", one person wrote.
"Just hold onto it till next week when we have a new govt and they legalise it - then you can enjoy it," another said.
Penalties associated with cannabis range from a $500 fine for possession to a 14 year jail term for its supply or manufacture.
Cultivation of cannabis, including to sow or plant it, can result in a 7 year jail term or an immediate 2-year jail term and/or a $2000 fine.
While it's all jokes down in Wellington the same couldn't be said for Turangi police when back in 2016 they had the small central North Island town feeling a little high.
Police were burning off a haul of illegal marijuana but didn't realise they were smoking out a local supermarket and sending smoke wafting down the street.
The Hits show host Adam Green filmed the incident and could be heard saying: "That smoke coming out of the chimney is wafting over, straight into the New World carpark and man does it smell like the old ganja over there."
