A teenager who allegedly tagged 25 buildings, fences and vehicles in Gisborne, causing up to thousands of dollars of damage, has been arrested.
The 19-year-old man was caught after police found fresh graffiti on property along the city's main thoroughfare, Gladstone Rd, last night.
Shortly after they discovered the vandalism, police found a number of suspects and arrested the teen.
The man has been charged with wilful damage. He has been bailed and will appear in Gisborne District Court on Wednesday.
Police say they aren't looking for anyone else in relation to the tagging.
The damage caused is likely to run into the thousands of dollars, Senior Sergeant Mike Stevenson of the Eastern District Command Centre said.
"No one has the right to deface another person's property. This is just plain outright vandalism that will cost a number of good people a substantial amount of money to rectify."
Police said anyone else whose property was damaged by graffiti should phone Gisborne Central Police Station on 06 831 0700.
