A driveby shooting in the Highbury suburb of Palmerston North Friday night has raised fresh fears of further gang violence.
Police said that at about 7.40pm an early model Bedford or Toyota van was seen to drive across the entrance to Radnor Place from Highbury Avenue.
A single shot, suspected to be from a shotgun, was fired down the cul-de-sac from the passenger side of the vehicle.
The van then sped off.
Police said no-one was injured and no damage was caused.
"The street is often filled with local children playing around that time of the evening," Detective Paul Claridge said.
He appealed for anyone with any information to contact police.
Highbury has been a centre of tension between rival gangs since 16-year-old Black Power affiliate Wallace Whatuira was shot dead on February 6.
Police are still hunting his killer.
