High winds have closed a popular Rotorua tourist attraction.
Rainbow Springs Nature Park on Fairy Springs Rd has closed its doors today after staff decided not to take the risk with the amount of trees in the park.
"The team on the ground has taken the decision to shut the park," said Rainbow Springs marketing manager Kirsty Phillips.
"Having a lot of trees in the park we take safety seriously. Our customers and our team come first."
This was the first time Ms Phillips was aware of the park closing due to high winds and staff were reassessing the situation every 15 minutes, however she did not expect the park would reopen today.
"We will walk around the park with an arborist tomorrow morning and assess the risk," she said.
Meanwhile the Orbserver Tethered Helium Balloon on nearby Ngongotaha Rd appears to have partially deflated.
