It's International Nurses Day - and today it was marked by remembering the large number of nurses who died during the Christchurch Earthquake.
No fewer than 53 nurses from eight countries died. Most were in the CTV buildings' Health Centre and Language school.
It has only just been discovered such a high number of the 185 fatalities were nurses. Local man Terry McLaughlin realised he recognised many of the names at a memorial service in February and did some research.
Vice Chair of the Canterbury Regional Nurses Council Janine Randle says the nurses were remembered at a wreath-laying ceremony at the Christchurch Memorial at 12.30 today.
