Forestry worker dies in accident near Gisborne

A man has died in a workplace accident on a forestry block at Whatatutu, near Gisborne, this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Tarndale Rd at 2.31pm, said Senior Sergeant Mike Stevenson of the Eastern District Command Centre.

Police are in the process of contacting next of kin and WorkSafe has been advised.

This afternoon an 18-year-old Greymouth man also died in a workplace accident.

He was one of four people who were repiling a home in Harihari on the West Coast.
