On the morning of his trial, a man has admitted the attempted murder and kidnap of a teenager who was found dumped on the roadside in Dome Valley last year.

Wayne Edward Blackett, 39, this morning pleaded guilty to the two charges at the Auckland High Court but is defending charges of sexual violation and assault relating to the alleged attack.

The trial of Blackett and Nicola Monique Jones, Julie-Ann Torrance, Michelle Blom, and Cameron Te Hau Kareti Hakeke, began this morning.

The jury selection is still under way.

The defendants face a varying number of charges which were laid after the discovery of a bound and gagged 19-year-old woman with critical head injuries on the side of a Dome Valley road last May 9.

The trial before Justice Christian Whata is set down for four weeks.
