A home in Hastings has been badly damaged in an overnight blaze.
Police and fire safety officers will today be investigating what caused the fire that broke out at the Lyndhurst Rd property early today.
Emergency services were first alerted to the blaze at 2am and arrived at the scene to find the house engulfed by fire.
Fire Service central communications shift manager David Meikle said four engines from Hastings and Napier were needed to battle the blaze.
No one was inside the home when the fire broke out.
Investigators would be returning to the house this morning to determine whether the blaze was suspicious.
