A woman has been rescued after getting into trouble in a Napier waterway this afternoon.

A St John ambulance spokesman said the woman, in her 50s, was rescued by members of the public about 2.45pm.

She was awake and breathing when ambulance paramedics arrived on the scene.

The incident occurred near to Pandora Kayaks.

A staff member at the organisation said the incident occurred in Pandora Pond, a sheltered and shallow area of the Ahuriri Estuary.

They declined to comment further.
