A truck has crashed into a fence on State Highway 33, sparking a small fire in dry grass and blocking the road.

Firefighters were called to the collision, just south of Paengaroa, about 2.40pm.

A Fire Service Communications spokesman said the fire reached about 4x3m in size but was extinguished once firefighters arrived.

It is understood no one has been seriously hurt in the collision.

Head of Western Bay of Plenty road policing Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said the collision had blocked the road and it was unclear at this stage how long it would be before the road was reopened.

More soon.
