Police are appealing for any sightings of an Australian man not seen or heard from since arriving in the country early last month.

Justin Richard Cooke, 38, arrived at Auckland International Airport on January 9.

"Since then, he has not made contact with anyone back home,'' police said today.

A statement said Cooke was intending to travel around New Zealand with a friend.

Other details about his plans were not clear.

"While police are continuing with enquiries, we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen Mr Cooke in New Zealand.''

Cooke is approximately 167cm (5ft 6) tall.

He has blue eyes and is often seen wearing the hat he is pictured in above.

Anyone who has seen Cooke or has any information about his whereabouts is urged to contact police immediately.
