Search continues for Hamilton man Hazael Mailata missing after a swim in Waikato River

The search for a 21-year-old Hamilton man, last seen in the Waikato River, will continue this morning.

Hazael Mailata was with a friend on the bank of the river when Mailata went for a swim shortly before 3am yesterday.

He was last seen in the darkness in the river and has not contacted family or friends since. Photo / Belinda Feek

He was last seen in the darkness in the river and has not contacted family or friends since.

Police have searched the banks of the Waikato River and a police spokeswoman said divers will be searching the river from 8am today.

Police are also in contact with friends and family in case Mailata contacts them.

The Police National Dive Squad also searched the river overnight.
