Two people are being airlifted to hospital following a two-car crash in Geraldine.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the intersection of Winchester-Geraldine Road and McKenzie Rd just after 1.30 this afternoon.

A police spokesperson said two vehicles were involved.

One vehicle rolled and two people were initially trapped but have since been freed.

St John said four people in total were involved in the crash.

Two suffered moderate injuries and are being flown by helicopter to Christchurch Hospital.

The other two suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The road is blocked.
