Emergency services have managed to free a person trapped in a vehicle after a car crash in South Auckland.

The incident happened near Aorere College on ​the corner of Portage Rd and Claude Ave in Papatoetoe about 9.30pm.

A St John's spokeswoman said one patient was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.​

Police, fire and ambulance were at the scene.

A police spokeswoman said police were assisting with traffic control in the area.
