A Greymouth man who told a German tourist that he would supply him with cannabis was convicted in the Greymouth District Court yesterday of obtaining money by deception - and was also ordered to pay the money back.
Marcus David Watt said he was asked by the visitor at the
Grey District Library if he could supply him with an ounce of cannabis.
Watt told him it would cost $550 and asked for the money, which he was given, and then told the tourist to wait at a bus stop for the drugs to be delivered.
Instead, Watt spent the money on alcohol and cigarettes. He was sentenced to 100 hours of community work and ordered to pay reparation.
