A man has been injured after the truck he was driving lost control and went over a bridge in Oxford, North Canterbury.

Emergency services were called to the bridge on Depot Rd shortly after 5.30pm following reports a large truck had gone into the Eyre River bed below.

Southern fire communications shift manager Andrew Norris said fire crews had to help extricate a man from the truck.

He had suffered some injuries and was taken to Christchurch Hospital for treatment.

Norris said the truck involved was a concrete mixer.

The circumstances of the accident are not yet known.
