Two people have suffered burns in a house fire in Christchurch this evening.

Fire crews are at the blaze on McBratneys Rd, in Dallington.

A St John spokeswoman said two people had suffered burns and were being assessed.

The severity of their burns was not yet known, she said.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 7pm.

A southern fire communications spokesman said they had attended to a small fire in the kitchen. The fire was now contained, he said just before 8pm.

The circumstances of the blaze have not been established and it had not been decided yet whether a fire investigator was needed at the site, the Fire Service said.
