Man dead in Kaimais crash named

A 40-year-old man was killed in a crash on State Highway 29 in the lower Kaimais on Friday.

Police released his named and age tonight.

He was Shayne Peter Waaka, 40, from Tauranga.

"Police extend their sympathies to the man's family and friends at this tragic time," police said in a statement.

Two cars collided near McLaren Falls Rd about 3.30pm, police said.

An ambulance spokeswoman said on Friday two others were injured.

SH29 was closed in both directions while the serious crash unit in attendance.
