Man flown to hospital after serious assault in the Coromandel

A man has been airlifted to hospital after a serious assault in the Coromandel last night.

He was airlifted to Auckland Hospital by Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

A police spokeswoman said the incident happened about 8pm yesterday.

"A man was flown to Auckland Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries," she said.

"Police have charged a 41-year-old male with assault and more charges are likely to follow."

The accused was due to appear in Hamilton District Court today.

The spokeswoman said police are conducting a scene examination at the address.
