Man denies attempted murder after Dunedin woman assaulted

A trial date has been set for a man accused of an attempted murder in Dunedin.

Daryen Leslie John Owens, of Dunedin, appeared before Justice Wylie via audio visual link in the High Court at Dunedin today.

He was charged with attempted murder after a 40-year-old woman was seriously assaulted in Cutten St, South Dunedin, early on February 7 this year.

The 43-year-old, defended by John Westgate, has denied the charge. His case was set down for Dunedin on February 13 next year.

The trial was likely to take about two weeks, Crown counsel Robin Bates said.

Owens was remanded in custody until the trial.
