A 77-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after an aggravated robbery in Hastings this morning.

Police are investigating the incident in Heretaunga St East.

It is believed two females broke into the man's home about 12.30am, assaulted him and stole his vehicle.

Police are on the lookout for the victim's car, a green and silver 1996 Toyota Carib station wagon, registration YH6964.

Sightings of the vehicle can be reported to Detective Sergeant Jason Crowe at Hawkes Bay Police on 06 381 0700.
