A young man suffered head injuries during a fight in the Coromandel on Saturday night.

The man, aged in his 20s, was left with a laceration after being hit over the head during the ruckus in Kennedy Bay, the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust said.

Alcohol was involved, a spokeswoman for the trust said, and police took the man to a helicopter landing zone where the rescue chopper picked him up.

He was flown to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition in the early hours of yesterday morning.
