Police are talking to three men who were in a car that fled from them in West Auckland this morning.

A police spokeswoman said the car failed to stop at a routine checkpoint on the Northwestern Motorway.

"Three males in a car were eventually apprehended and are now assisting police with inquiries."

Residents in Sunnyvale reported hearing a series of sirens going on around 11am today.

The police spokeswoman said there weren't any reports of anything untoward in the suburb, but said it was likely related to the police chase.

"The sirens may have been units travelling through to a car failing to stop incident out west."
