Two sawn-off firearms and drugs have been seized from a house in Timaru.

Police arrested a 20-year-old local man with gang connections when they executed a search warrant at the property last night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Richard Quested said officers found a cut-down shotgun, a cut-down high-powered rifle and a small amount of methamphetamine at the house.

He said police were committed to keeping communities safe.

"Firearms are incredibly dangerous in the hands of criminals and police will take positive action to recover them."

A 20-year-old man will face charges of unlawful possession of two firearms and possession of a class A drug.
