Fire crews are battling a blaze at a two-storey home in Glen Eden tonight.

A fire service spokeswoman said the residents of the home on Shetland St were safely at a neighbour's house.

Four crews were at the scene and were alerted to the fire at 6.50pm.

Neighbour Amie Vizor said the back part of the house was ablaze.

"Flames could be seen about 1.5 metres from the roof. It was alight a good 20 minutes."

She said there were more flames visible than smoke, but the fire service had it under control fairly quickly.
