An Ashburton service station was held up at knife-point last night.

Police said an armed man walked into Mobil Ashburton and demanded cash from a staff member about 8.30pm. He was highly agitated and armed with a knife.

The man fled the scene with a small amount of money.

The offender was described as a lean man in his late 20s to early 30s, up to 1.8m tall. He had a small amount of facial hair and olive skin.

Police said the man was wearing a grey vest with a dark long-sleeve top underneath, and long black pants.

Officers were examining CCTV footage of the robbery today.

Police said they had several leads to follow and were continuing investigations.
