An elderly woman who suffered moderate injuries in a fall in Kahuterwawa Forest this afternoon has been flown by rescue helicopter to Palmerston North Hospital.

The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter, operated by the Philips Search and Rescue Trust, came to the 71-year-old woman's aid about 1pm after St John ambulance crews were unable to reach her of foot. The forest is near the town of Tokomaru, 20 kilometres south of Palmerston North.

An ambulance spokesman said the woman was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
