Up to six motorcyclists were involved in a crash in the Manawatu region this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Kimbolton Rd, just out of Cheltenham, at 1.40pm, Inspector Ken Climo said.

Five to six motorcyclists were involved in the crash, all thought to have been on separate bikes.

Inspector Climo said three of the riders were hurt in the crash but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

A helicopter was initially going to be dispatched to the scene but this was cancelled.

The road is expected to remain closed until 5pm while the police serious crash unit carries out its investigation.
