Police are looking for witnesses after a man stole a large sum of money from an Upper Hutt bar.

At about 1pm yesterday, a man, who may have been a customer at Upper Hutt's Rimutaka Tavern on Fergusson Drive, jumped over the bar and removed the till drawer, police said.

The staff were in the back room at the time and noticed the drawer missing shortly after.

Police would be looking through the CCTV footage to identify the man.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Fergusson Drive area at 1pm yesterday is asked to contact the Hutt Valley Police on 04 560 2600.

Information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
