One seriously injured after car rolls

One man is in hospital with a serious head injury after the car he was driving rolled on a South Island road early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the site of the crash on River Road between Gore and Mataura shortly after midnight.

Police reported the driver of the Toyota Surf vehicle had lost control, causing it to flip and trap him in the vehicle.

He was extracted from the vehicle by the Fire Service.

Four other passengers in the vehicle escaped with minor injuries.
