'Pesky' insects flourish in hot summer sun

If you live in Christchurch, and you're finding yourself the victim of mosquito bites more than usual...rest assured you're not the only one. The pesky insects appear to be on the rise this summer, with hot temperatures creating ideal conditions for larvae to flourish.

Ruud Kleinpaste says on hot days people tend to water their potted plants more than usual, and the saucers provide a good bathing site for mosquitos to develop. He says if people take time to tip out water from their plant pots, and remember to refresh it, it might help.
