Arrest made after Victoria Park assault

An arrest has been made after an assault in a central Auckland park.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested following the discovery of an unconscious man lying face down in the grass at Victoria Park yesterday morning with critical injuries.

The arrested man will appear in the Auckland District Court tomorrow charged with common assault.

The victim was found by council workers shortly after 8am, and was taken to Auckland City Hospital with severe head injuries.

Police his injuries were so severe they could be life threatening.

The 50-year-old victim remains in Auckland City Hospital.
