An empty farm workers' house is "buggered" after it was ravaged by fire this morning.
Emergency services were called to the rural Tararua property, which was well ablaze when they arrived.
"The house is a total loss," Eketahuna senior fire station officer Brent Dickson said.
Nobody was in the single-storey house on Mangaroa Rd, east of the town, at the time.
It's surrounded by a shelter belt but a neighbour across the road saw the flames and called 111 just after 10am.
"As far as I know it was used as a farm workers house but there was no one in there at the moment. Luckily there was nobody hurt or injured. The house is buggered," Mr Dickson said.
A fire spokeswoman said two fire appliances from Pahiatua attended, as well as one from Eketahuna.
The blaze took over an hour to put out.
